How to Sit Up Straight in a Chair or at a Desk and Avoid Neck and Back Pain

Do you realize that you’re slouching when you sit?  Would you like to learn how to easily sit up straight?

Maybe you don’t notice you’re slouching but you DO notice that your neck or back hurts or you have a headache after sitting at your desk or when you’re relaxing.

Quick tip to sit up straight:

Push your “tail” all the way back to the crease of the seat.  Don’t allow your back to round.  Don’t sit on your tailbone.  Be on your sit bones.

If your legs are too short to do this, place a pillow behind your waist and press into that.  The pillow has to be thick enough to let your whole thigh rest on the seat and your tail be tucked into the crease of the seat and pillow.

If you catch yourself lounging to one side, correct it and try to be centered, rather than leaning.  You may have to correct every few minutes!

Learning to sit up straight at your desk, car seat or any other chair or seat can be done but it takes practice.  You have to pay attention to how you’re positioned and make adjustments, sometimes hundreds of times.  It’s okay to use props for “reminders,” too.

The advantage of sitting up straight is no more pain.

And, that’s a good thing!
